Joint Press Conference with Budapest Pride

Budapest, Friday 21 January 2022

Earlier today the European Pride Organisers Association held a join press conference with Budapest Pride outside the Hungarian Parliament in Budapest, Hungary. President of the Association, Kristine Garina, said:

“On behalf of Pride organisations across Europe, today the European Pride Organisers Association stands in solidarity with Budapest Pride and every LGBTI+ person in Hungary.

The values of freedom, fairness and equality are core European values. The rolling back of the rights of LGBTI+ people in Hungary brings shame on a country that, as Máté so powerfully said, was once at the forefront of equality in the region.

LGBTI+ people exist everywhere. They are your neighbours, your work colleagues, your friends, your fellow students, your family. They are equal in their rights and deserve the same respect and treatment as everyone else.

This summer, in its 27th anniversary year, Budapest Pride will show the beautiful diversity of the LGBTI+ community and its allies, and we encourage everyone who shares our values and our demands for equality to join us on Saturday 23 July.”
